Children events at LVM Pokaiņi Forest

27.03.2016 17:03

In the Easter week from 21 until 25 March, the LVM Pokaiņi Forest held various events for children. At the forest children met Mežainīte who had got lost while collecting lichens. Together they read the Pokaiņi Forest story and finding signs left by the Fire Man helped them to find the house of big Fire Man.

Children didn’t come with empty hands. Each of them had collected some spruce’s cone, twig or something else. It’s good that they did that, otherwise The Fire Man wouldn't let them in his pyramid, were he already had a little bonfire. The Fire Man asked children to identify tree species of various firewood logs. As it turns out, it is not that simple, because they had to identify eight different trees. The Fire Man told a very interesting story about fire. Only few knew how hot is fire and which colour of fire is the hottest. The Fire Man also showed how to build a shelter in forest. Each of the children gladly participated in the building of a shelter.

On the way back, children saw the big face and the Cleansing of Pokaiņi. At the information centre, in the creative workshops, children were greeted by the Sun Girl. Each of them created an interesting mask for themselves with a help of paint, brush and glue. Each participant received a certificate of appreciation and a gift for the activeness and curiosity.

Meanwhile, herbal tea was boiling in large cauldron over a bonfire, and food was set on a table at the gazebo. After the activities in the fresh air and in workshops, the food tasted divine.

JSC “Latvijas valsts meži” wishes you a happy Easter!
