Celebration of first Foresters’ Festival in Nature Park in Tērvete

21.02.2017 14:02

The first Foresters’ Festival was celebrated on a sunny Saturday in the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete. Everyone could listen, observe and engage in activities from dwarf town “Čiekure” to the Skyways of Lucky Land.

Young and old visitors of the miraculous forest used the unprecedented opportunity to see one of forest thinning methods – commercial thinning – and to see, hear and “touch” a harvester. In the demonstration plot visitors keenly observed forest tending works – harvester took out trees that smaller, delimbed and buckled them, and listened the commentary and explanations of the senior forest expert Kaspars Riže. Visitors were not shy to ask their questions to the expert. Visitors and expert had a productive and educational dialogue simultaneously to the forest thinning on the site. Fairytale Forest’s Witch gave warm tea to all visitors of the park. After the commercial thinning everyone could witness how harvester transformed into forwarder and could observe transportation of timber from the felling area to timber landing.

Not far from there, up the hill, the Skyways of Lucky Land were welcoming the adventurous visitors of the park to try out the rope and cable trail few metres above ground. One tried out their strength in the rope and cable trail, other courageous ones went on a 200 m long zip line ride between the outstanding pines of Tērvete. The sunny Saturday of February inspired 40 nature friends to engage into athletic activities. The Skyways of Lucky Land invites to breathe in the fresh air of pine forest and until the 19 March to engage in inspiring winter adventure and offers a discount up to 30 %.

The festivities of Foresters’ Festival in the dwarf town “Čiekure” could be heard from afar. There visitors debarked, planed, sawed and created wooden sculpture, engaged in athletic activities, played games and laughed. In several locations in guidance of foresters and Dwarf Daddy himself visitors could try out real forester works. The most active ones received a colourful yarn bracelet, which then could be exchanged for hot and filling Foresters’ porridge that was given out by the Forest Witch. The Forest Man asked tricky questions and only sharpest and quickest were able to answer and received prizes from the host of the Foresters’ Festival.

But at the “Rūķotava” of Dwarfs’ Cottage nature friends could taste different teas, also the less known pine bud tea. Dwarf daughter shared wisdom of dwarf life and herbs. To boost immunity all guests of “Rūķotava” eat some juniper berries. While some enjoyed tea and rested their feet by the fireplace, others tested their skills with harvester simulator. And it was not as easy as it seemed!

Altogether, Foresters’ Festival in the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete was visited by 450 nature friends. 155 of them were schoolchildren from various places of Latvia – Gulbene, Jelgava, Skrunda and other – who used the special offer of LVM and visited the Foresters’ Festival free of charge! The LVM Nature Park in Tērvete invites to spend time in nature, to learn about processes in forest and see what’s left unseen in your everyday life.
