On Saturday, 18 March, from 1 PM everyone is welcome to the celebration of the Great Day in the LVM Pokaiņi Forest. The group “Baltās dūjas” from Saldus will sing, play and lead a ritual together with the White Wind, practitioner of ancient traditions. Together we will greet the Great Day with Sun’s folk-songs and folk traditions. During the fire ritual each of us will “weave in” Sun's light and love in the cloth of our intentions of this year. Then will follow the games, greeting of birds, egg rolling and swinging of the Great Day.
In ancient times most of nations began their year in spring, in spring equinox. Spring equinox is the time when darkness and light are in balance. After that, light starts to dominate – day becomes longer than night. Light and Sun are the symbols of life, nature and also people are waking up. Name itself – the Great Day – speaks about the importance of this time. During Christmas we find and strengthen our bond with God. During Meteņi we are planning our tasks for the next time cycle, while being connected with the higher self. During the Great Day we get these plans into motion, fill them with a blessing of Laima (the deity of fortune) and with Sun’s love, we prepare to bring our plans into world, starting to weave a new cloth of our life. These plans are as a little child in a crib, who needs caring and love. Everything that starts to bud and grow during the Great Day is so very fragile, needs caring and support. During spring equinox we also celebrate the Days of Doula, and it will give us an opportunity to swing in rebozo shawls and to create little yarn suns. We will finish with herb tea of Pokaiņi and with a meal of the Great Day. If you want, you can bring some snacks and your own egg of the Great Day.
