Located in the picturesque hillocks of Kurzeme, in a shade of century old lime trees, telling stories to young and old about nature, surrounded with never-ending bird songs – that is the everyday of Jaunmokas Palace. Now the greenness can be seen not only in the surroundings but it has also been approved by the fastest growing eco-label – the “Green Key”, which was received by Arvis Lagzdiņš, the representative of Jaunmokas Palace, on 15 May of this year in the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development in the ceremony of Foundation for Environmental Education.
The “Green Key” is an international tourism voluntary eco-label system, which is awarded to hotels, campsites, hostels and from year 2015 also to restaurants. The “Green Key” was founded to decrease the impact of tourism on nature, to ensure a responsible use of resources, to educate employees of tourism companies, clients and society altogether about the aspects of environment and sustainable development. To receive the certificate, one must be eligible in 12 different sectors – from electric power and water resource saving, and environmentally friendly cleaning of the territory to a special environmental policy documents and personnel education about environmentally friendly everyday activities.
Jaunmokas Palace:
- Use water resources rationally;
- Use environmentally friendly cleaning products;
- Sort waste and give it for recycling, offer to sort waste also to guest;
- Use energy effective light-bulbs;
- Café also offers vegetarian menu;
- Maintains a fresh air – smoking is allowed only in specific places outside premises;
- Use environmentally friendly methods to take care of the green area;
- Offers bicycle rental and information about the near and far nature and cultural attraction sites;
- For printing uses only eco-labelled paper;
- Carries out various activities that popularise environmentally friendly lifestyle;
- Maintains an environmentally friendly long-term management in other fields.
