For the first time the LVM Kalsnava Arboretum opened its doors for visitors in the dead of the night. The celebration of “Witches’ Broom Ball” this time took place on a significant date – on Friday the 13 October. The special date, magic of the night and the temptation of fire lights created that special feeling that is difficult to repeat, however, the guests of the ball, who wore costumes that can’t be put into words, made the evening even brighter and more unique.
This year has not spoiled us with good weather, but on the day of the event people were not frightened by the strong wind and rain that did not actually appear during the whole evening.
The host of the event, Māris Olte, sparkled a light even in the shyest guests of the ball!
The aim of the event was to encourage people to focus on sustainable use of natural resources and to environmentally friendly actions. Visitors had a chance to participate in creative workshops, where they could create jewellery, brooms and other beautiful things from natural materials.
Simultaneously to creative workshops, guests of the ball were able to compete in different old, traditional sports games, where the strongest, fastest and most precise ones received prizes.
Those, who like more extreme stuff, were able to participate in the night orienteering competition, they proved their skills in orienteering in time and space. Of course, the fastest and most precise ones received not only beautiful medals, but also witches’ brooms.
Guests had a possibility to express their creativity and prove themselves in activities, also taste and learn many things about nature’s gifts that brings pleasure both to tummies, but also warms hearts – thank you, our friends, who came and brought tasty things for our guests. The employees of Arboretum also took care of the visitors by preparing a delicious herbal tea and peculiarly spicy soup – thank you, chef!
As in a proper ball and with the significant date, the musical setting was provided by the ancient fighting and folklore group “Vilkači”. The planned fire show at the end of the evening turned into colourful fireworks, for that we must say thanks to the autumn winds. We thank all those who helped to create this event and the biggest thanks to all those who came and were not frightened by the weather – THANK YOU!
See you next year!
