The 2nd season of the LVM contest “Release the Mother!”, which has been full of beautiful catches and interesting, unprecedented events, is coming to a meaningful closing – applications will be accepted until the last minute of the 30 November. So far, the contest has received 52 applications altogether from all lakes of LVM. Contestants have caught and released 233 fish of all sizes in total, but around hundred participants have been named as the Honorary Fisherman. If you want your name to be written in the “Release the Mother!” list, then you can still make it in any of the LVM lakes, in the beginning of December we will summarise more extensive statistics and will analyse the received data.
The modest October
We have to mention participants who have caught and released the longest pikes in October and who have won the monthly prizes. In October, five applications have been received with 435 centimetres of hope – six released pikes. The application of the longest, 93 centimetres, fish comes from Uldis Sniķeris, a regular guest in the LVM lakes, on the 28 October was angling alone, when the largest fish in his life hooked – a pike. The stress was quite high, thus, the picture has not turned out to be in the best quality, however, Uldis was able to present a video where the fish and its release can be seen, and the jury accepted the application. Uldis receives the honour to be the winner of the month. Second and third longest pikes, also from Kaņieris, were received from Arturs Suhomiro, and both pikes were caught on the same day – the 8 October.
Photo: When you are angling alone it is not easy to take a picture of fish, the large fish and anglers are not on the same page when it comes to a photo session, even if the fish are to be released.
November – the month of pikes
In November, contest has already received three pikes above 90 centimetres. For now, application of the longest one has been sent in by Mārtiņš Tihonovs – 96 centimetres, this “mother” was tricked during the filming of season’s final fishing of “Makšķerē ar Olti” in the style of “Release the Mother!” in the LVM Lake Kaņieris. On the public holiday – 18 November – large pikes were caught by the long-term guests of LVM lakes, the brothers Bērziņš’. Zigmārs caught and released a 67 centimetres pike, but Rinalds got already the second pike in this season that is above 90 centimetres, this time – 93 centimetres!
Photo: a 93 centimetres long pike weighs approximately 6.5 kilograms, however, pikes can reach a weight that is even three times as much, and maybe this is the pike that will reach a size of a real trophy?
“Release the Mother!” outside the LVM waters
Managers of other waters also have liked the LVM campaign “Release the Mother!” – fish measurement troughs have been delivered and already tested in the Lake Alūksne, managed by ALJA, in the recreation centre “Vecupenieki” at the Lake Babīte, and also Lake Burtnieku and ponds of Seda.
