This past year in the LVM Kalsnava Arboretum has been rich with new and inspiring events.

Last year we opened the doors of the School of Green Yard, where it is possible to learn about the processes of nature, get to know the principles of bioeconomics and understand the significance of forestry – and all that outside school premises. It is a possibility get into roles of nature scientists, discoverers of forest secrets and nature's detectives, thus, learning natural sciences through smart tasks and games.

Even though, the target group for the School of Green Yard was intended for different age school groups, nonetheless, adults also showed interest about learning in nature. And it was not all that easy also for adults, but the joy of learning about nature only grew. Children from 35 different schools have participated in the first year of the School of Green Yard!

Last year we also become a permanent destination of the “LVM Forest Expedition” where during the whole school year schools can apply and go on an educational environmental hikes in nature.

And 15 couples have said “Yes” in the gardens of rare treasures. The 19 August turned out to be special, and due to the big demand employees proved their skills in efficient planning. If this is the year when you want to exchange your wedding vows in a picturesque and friendly atmosphere, then hurry up, the dates are already being booked! :)

The annual Peony Festival brought joy to the visitors for the seventh year. Even though peonies were not in full bloom during the event, it didn't hold back 3528 visitors to arrive to enjoy the beauty of flowers and concerts, and also other creative and active activities.

At the end of the year we opened the doors for a new event – Witches’ Broom Ball 2017. The idea for the theme of event was not difficult to find, the collection of LVM Kalsnava Arboretum has wind or witches’ brooms that were honoured this time. The event's programme also included popularisation of environmentally friendly actions and sustainable resource exploitation principles by offering visitors active and creative activities. The new event gathered more than 400 visitors.

If we talk about new activities amongst the traditional values then we also have to mention the relevant information about the collection of LVM Kalsnava Arboretum. In 2017, 75 varieties have been added to the collection. One of the treasures - Carolina Silverbell (Halesia carolina) – survived winter, bloomed and gave seeds.
