Meteņi celebration at LVM Pokaiņi

Meteņi is the end of the silent period, when we have a symbolic farewell celebration to the winter – it is an ancient celebration to welcome spring.

On the 7 February from 12 a.m. everyone is welcome to go to the sacred tree (oak of Namejs) through the beautiful trails of Poikaiņi Forest together with a psychic Sarmīte Makarova, yoga and meditation teacher Kristīne Kutuzova and folklore specialist Ilze Kaša to seek strength and inspiration. At the ziggurat by the celebration bonfire you will be able to have a farewell with winter, sacrifice to the wind and fire the unwanted emotions that have piled up during the dark winter, and clear the space for something new, beautiful and inspirational.

The creative workshops at the Information Centre of Pokaiņi Forest will provide the young and old with possibilities to learn something new, exciting and useful.

The painter Anete Puga will welcome you to create your own mandala of feelings with the help of bright colours and brushes – to balance emotions, find peace and get rid of the everyday stress.

Create beautiful mandalas with colourful yarn together with the artist Lelde Nesaule – to bring joy and bright thoughts to your everyday life.

The handy and useful linen bags will be painted in a guidance of Zane Skreija, the host of workshop.

Those who want to catch some colourful dreams can create their dreamcatchers with the help of workshop host Sarmīte Makarova.

As Meteņi is also a feast for tummy, because the Great Easter Fast is following, then at the meadow by the gazebo Zane and Dzintars with friends will have prepared a rich meal cooked on a bonfire and the special herbal tea of Pokaiņi.

Every new day is given as a new chance. Let it go by or use it to learn something new and worthy – the choice is yours.
