IT MEANS MOTHER NATURE.

AND IT’S TRUE.

Spring awakening at LVM Tērvete Reservoir

When spring is coming closer and birds are migrating back to temperate regions, then the treasure and pride of LVM Tērvete Reservoir is not only award-winning size fishes, but also enormous, grey and never-ending flocks of geese.

Now, during day, the surroundings of LVM Tērvete Reservoir are peaceful and quiet, when listening attentively, you can hear last year’s leaves rustling. Tree branches are swaying in the calm wind of spring, the surface of reservoir is only slightly moving, creating little waves. However, when dawn sets in, the atmosphere at the reservoir changes swiftly. Wing flaps and sharp, almost piercing calls surround the water, when flocks of geese are coming. Part of the flock lands in water with a sudden force, whisking the water in a never-ending movement. Others continue to fly over the water creating swirls of different heights and shapes, and paint the sky into grey shades. Observing and listening to the performance of sounds and movement in the sky and in water, you begin to feel insignificant, which only intensifies when the number of performers and their noise increases.

Most of the migrating birds uses the LVM Tērvete Reservoir as a resting stop, only few selects it as a nesting place, because there is no place for all of them. At the moment, the reservoir is used as a rest stop and temporary home by geese, swans and ducks. And grey herons also has been seen. Earlier than previous years, Eurasian bittern has returned to the reservoir, which has been created by the mysterious pine tree forest.

The LVM Tērvete Reservoir, the picturesque 70 ha lake, is a favourite destination for fishermen and tourists. The camping houses can welcome twenty four guest, others are welcome to use the tent camping area.
