IT MEANS MOTHER NATURE.

AND IT’S TRUE.

Foresters’ Festival

On Saturday, 18 February, from 1 PM till 4 PM the Foresters’ Festival will take place in the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete! In the forest that is usually filled with bustling dwarfs and entwined with fairytales, a bit farther away from the busy trails, a real foresters’ surprise will await...

For the first time in Latvia, all who are interested will be able to observe one of forest thinning methods – commercial thinning – and to see, hear and “touch” a harvester. The aim of this demonstration is to allow young and old to witness with own eyes such big and powerful forest machine in real action. Trees will be felled, delimbed and buckled, until the last stage – placing timber in landing. The senior forest expert of LVM, Kaspars Riže, will explain the necessity of such thinning and will answer questions of the viewers. “In the result of commercial thinning an additional growing space will be cleared and pleasant growth conditions will be provided for the trees left, that in future will bring high quality timber. The strongest and largest trees will be left standing, they will produce more oxygen.”

For a forest to grow beautiful and of good quality, soon after planting it needs to be taken care of until forest has grown. A forest that has been tended is healthier, it contains more of valuable trees, it is less exposed to nature's disasters, for example, strong winds and snow breakage. And, surely, after the demonstration everyone will have a chance to “touch” the forest machine that is sweetly nicknamed “little bear”. This harvester is the only one in Latvia – smaller in its size and is more conserving to soil.

The representatives of the Forest Faculty of Latvia University of Agriculture will introduce with timber assortments – types of timber products – planks, pulpwood, power generating woodchips and production of other values. Visitors will have a chance to learn practical methods to determine the height of a tree.

However, representatives of the Forest and Wood Products Research and Development Institute (abbreviated as MeKA) will provide an opportunity to test a harvester simulator. There is a reason why harvester operators are compared to pilots. You will have a chance to verify that in the café “Bodīte” at the Dwarfs’ Cottage! But in the “Rūķotava” Dwarf Mommy and dwarf daughters will invite for a cup of home-made spruce needle drink and pine bud tea.

But in dwarf town “Čiekure” together with fairytale characters will participate in athletic competitions and everyone will be able to test their abilities in foresters’ jobs – to saw, to hew, to debark a tree. And, pleasantly tired from the various activities, we can emerge in games. The most active ones will receive gifts – a surprise!

Those, who wish to observe the Foresters’ Festival from above, are welcomed to go on an adventure in the Skyways of Lucky Land! All the brave and active visitors of the Nature Park in Tērvete will have up to 30% discount to the rope trail that is few metres above ground.

There will be foresters’ stories, works and, surely, the foresters’ porridge that has been praised by grandfathers’ stories. Come and spend time in nature – in the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete!

Entrance to the event with park’s tickets, preschool children and students up to 18 years can visit “Foresters’ Festival” – free of charge!
