Wooden Pigman – the newest character in LVM Nature Park in Tērvete
- Monday, 28 august 2017
The best friend and protector of forests in Latvia – Pigman – has finished this summer in a special event – the opening ceremony of Wooden sculpture of Pigman, which took place on 20 August in the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete.
The wonderful ceremony gathered both young and old supporters of Pigman. From 12 noon visitors had a chance to participate in different creative workshops together with Dwarf family and Pigman himself – the most active visitors together with Dwarf Daddy made different interesting objects from wood.
Even though the opening ceremony of the sculpture was held in a fun atmosphere, all participants gave the solemn Pigman's vow with whom they swore not to litter in forest. After the ceremony all the visitors of the park could enjoy a theatre play “Velniņi” of the fairytale by Rūdolfs Blaumanis.
The Wooden Pigman's sculpture has joined the many wooden characters as a reminder of the importance to maintain not only clean forests, but also all your surroundings. The author of it is Regnārs Rubuls from Jelgava, who participated in the children’s drawing competition of Pigman's Wood Fan tour last year
Over the years, many sculptures of characters from Anna Brigadere's fairytales has been created and placed in the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete. Which includes such popular character sculptures as Tom Thumb, Giant Lopear, Forest King and his court, Annele with friends, and also wooden dwarf family. The recently sculptured wooden Pigman will greet visitors of the park with a raised hand in salute, and like the real Pigman, will gladly take photos with every protector of clean forests.
Pigman, as the frontman of JSC “Latvijas valsts meži” social campaign "Don't Litter In The Forest!”, is being active already since year 2005, with his example inspiring both children and adults to be responsible about nature and not leave litter in the nature.
