IT MEANS MOTHER NATURE.

AND IT’S TRUE.

Teachers are introduced to environmental education programmes and recreation possibilities at LVM Nature Park in Tērvete

The LVM Nature Park in Tērvete for several years indulge in a special tradition – during the school break we invite to visit nature park and learn about forest, landscape and fairytale character stories for young and old forest friends – teachers. This year's opportunity to get to know LVM environmental education programme “Learning about Forests” offered activities for pre-school and elementary school and interest education groups were used by 45 teachers from Ogre region and city.

Having a slightly different beginning of the work week, teachers of Ogre region, full of energy, smiling and willing to learn, arrived at the Nature Park in Tērvete. In the morning part teachers listened to environmental education specialists of Nature Park in Tērvete, who laid out the content of education programme “Learning about Forest”. The various programme's options of teaching in nature were revealed to teachers – educational lesson in forest, in the Green Classroom, creative workshops with the Dwarf family and seasonal hikes in the large territory of the park – and various possibilities to adjust them to different age groups and interest study groups.

To broaden the perspective, impression and experience of schoolchildren and pre-school children, the collaboration partners of Nature Park in Tērvete – Tērvete Skyways of Lucky Land and Tērvete Butterfly House – introduced teachers with environmental education and active recreation possibilities in their surprising destinations – learn about another kind of forest! However, representative of Tērvete Butterfly House encouraged getting to know the tropical world with bright butterflies, turtles, fish and other creatures that are not characteristic to our climate zone.

When extensive information about recreational and educational possibilities has been received it is time to do some practical activities! Teachers got to know the creative workshop offer of the hardworking Dwarf family – Dwarf knowledge rooms – in the first of them knowledge is received by doing some practical activities, creating a small wooden toy, souvenir; in the second by listening to nature stories; but in the third – history, tree and forest is explored with the help of a game. Creative workshops in the guidance of the attentive and competent Dwarf family are available in spring, around Easter time, and during autumn/winter season, when dwarfs are celebrating Mārtiņš day, celebrates the birthday of Latvia and is waiting for Christmas.

After warm goodbyes with Dwarf family, teachers went to the Green Classroom with the Fairytale Train, where they got to know a part of park which is adapted and thought-out to forest environment education. Environmental specialists of Nature Park in Tērvete in the Green Classroom introduced teachers with various educational lessons and with an infrastructure created for forest education. Teachers found out about the Forest friends and not-friends trail, mathematics in forest and how to use it by working in practice, tested their knowledge in the Animal trail by learning about forest as natural system that asks for a smart and modern management.
