Extraordinary florescence in LVM Kalsnava Arboretum

The LVM Kalsnava Arboretum can surprise its visitors with extraordinary florescence also in the middle of summer, because the Weigela florida variety “Red Prince” is blooming with colourful red blossoms, the scent of various blooming mock-orange Philadelphus species can be scented from afar, also honeysuckles Lonicera are still in bloom.

The silver linden Tilia tomentosa, which is right next to the ticket building, is preparing to bloom, though the small leaved lime is in full bloom already. The Deutzia crenata variety “Plena” has bloomed in light pink blossoms. Here and there the swamp azalea is still flowering. The American black elderberry Sambucus canadensis has bloomed in white flowers in the shade of forest.

In the rhododendron forest bilberries and chanterelles can be picked, as well as other mushrooms, and firs Abies have bluish purple cones sitting on their branches.

Even ponds are flowering, because varieties of water lilies have covered the surface of arboretum’s ponds, and frogs are croaking in appreciation. Don't forget to visit the European smoketree Cotinus coggygria while at the arboretum, because this unusual tree has bloomed in its characteristic blossoms – the fluffy flowerheads that from afar resemble large wigs.

The garden is decorated with blooming white Hydrangeas Hydrangea and yellow flowers of Cytisus shrubs. The berries of Dutchman's pipe Aristolochia durior, Actinidia species, and Schisandra Schisandra chinensis have ripened. The dappled willow Salix integra “Hakuro Nishiki” resembles blooming shrubs, but actually those are leaves of new shoots that are coloured in light pink tones.

All of this and even more can be found in our collection of extraordinary trees, shrubs and lianas.
