IT MEANS MOTHER NATURE.

AND IT’S TRUE.

The LVM Kalsnava Arboretum opens for a new season

Spring with its rich variety of green tones, with sonorous bird songs and intoxicating nature’s fragrances is bringing more and more joy to the nature friends. The LVM Kalsnava Arboretum, where collections of various extraordinary trees, shrubs and lianas can be seen, is ready to delight all of the visitors, and on this weekend, 30 April, will kick off its new tourism season. This time, the doors of the newly built ticket building will be opened too and will provide visitors new offers and extra comfort.

In the new ticket building of arboretum, visitors will be able to buy entrance tickets and souvenirs, but on the second floor – organise some events, seminars and conferences for up to 60 people. “From now, the participants’ comfort of our events will not be affected by the changing weather. Schoolchildren will be able to use the premises for various activities of the “Learning about Forest” educational programme,” says Jānis Zīliņš, the manager of Kalsnava Arboretum.

The LVM Kalsnava Arboretum also performs long term monitoring by researching tree development, suitability for defined climatic conditions, and also seed production and propagation. Each year the collection of arboretum is being expanded with new taxonomic units – varieties. For those, who like being active, we offer decorative tree and shrub seeds, various materials for floristry (cones, seeds, branches) and waterlily plants.

Visitors can go and get to know the collection of arboretum by themselves or in a guidance of knowing guides, who will not only show and tell about the trees in the garden, but will also know their origin, preferable growing conditions and other characteristics. We also offer consultations of a dendrologist.

There is so much to see and learn in the arboretum, that’s why schoolchildren are especially welcome, providing them special, educational programmes. The newly-weds are also welcome to share their happiness and love in the arboretum on their special day by enjoying a special celebration programme.

For visitor comfort there is a large car park free of charge. Moreover, we have also thought about owners of car caravans. For their comfort six parking places have been created with a possibility to use the electricity, separate shower and WC, and also laundry option.

An unforgettable event in the arboretum is the already traditional Peony Festival, which will be celebrated for the sixth year. This year, the glory of peony flowers will be opened on 19 June. Visitors of the festival will be able to see and rejoice about the colourful peony blossoms, to buy them as new plants and also participate in an auction to try to purchase plants of rare and exotic species. In the ticket office of LVM Kalsnava Arboretum will be a possibility to buy Aldonis Vēriņš book “Latvian and his peonies”, which is a must-have for all admirers of peonies.
