LVM Nature Park in Tērvete visited by a record number of tourists

The LVM Nature Park in Tērvete in 2015 was visited by 149 thousand tourists, which is the largest number of visitors in the history of the park. Comparing with 2014 (116 thousands), the number of tourists in the Nature Park in Tērvete last year has increased by 28 %.

The LVM Nature Park in Tērvete has been a very popular destination for families with children and for school groups. The young and old visitors were welcomed by fairytale characters not only in more than 30 special events, but also every day of the week, no matter the season.

A noticeable increase can be seen not only for local citizens’ desire to travel, but also for the interest of foreign tourist about recreational possibilities in the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete. In 2015 the foreign tourists represented 42 % from the total number of visitors in Nature Park in Tērvete. The family friendly destination was visited by citizens of almost all European countries, and also tourists from far and exotic places, like – Australia, Peru, Canada and China. Large numbers of foreign tourists still are from the closest neighbours. The leaders are citizens of Lithuania (84%), but in comparison to previous year, Estonians have visited Tērvete more than previous. They represent 12 % of visitors.

It is traditional that each year something new is presented in the park. School age children and teenagers were interested by the “Laimīgās zemes Gaisa takas" (Skyways of Lucky Land) that opened in the spring – a construction made of ropes and wood ten meters above the ground. In the summer, visitors were able to attend concerts and educational performances about the life in forest. However, at the end of the year visitors went to see a peculiar performance of forest and lights at the main entrance of the park – next to the new bridge – laboratory.

Almost 10 thousand pre-school age children and elementary school children have combined recreation in nature with a possibility to take part in activities of nature cognition, going to educational excursions, attending camps and environmental workshops.

The largest wooden view tower in Latvia has been very popular in the park, one in three nature friends has climbed it, however, one in five visitors used the Fairytale Train.

The territory of LVM Nature Park in Tērvete is more than 1200 ha, from which more than 400 ha are landscaped for visitors. Every year JSC “Latvijas valsts meži" performs significant infrastructure maintenance and reconstruction works in the Nature Park in Tērvete.
