The first Nature Day in LVM Jaunmokas Palace

04.05.2016 15:05

How to live in a nature friendly way? Who lives in a park? How to plant a tree correctly? How does a meadow taste and how do bugs walk? How and why to sort waste correctly? These are only few of the questions that on Friday, the 29 April, in the park of Jaunmokas Palace were answered to the school students of Tukums district – the Nature Day was attended by around 200 children from Tukums, Tume, Pūre and Irlava.

During the day, participants went on a seven control point trail to test their knowledge about nature and to upgrade their knowledge with new facts. Groups of children visited the Pigman, they learned how forests are planted in large areas, listened stories about residents of parks, tasted several plants that grow in wilderness and gardens, and learned that not only lettuce is healthy and tasty. They played an environmental game, which was prepared by Latvian 4-H, also walked like bugs and together with “Latvijas zaļā josta” learned how to recycle waste correctly. However, in the free time children dressed up in suits of forest characters, built birdhouses, played “Riču raču”, walked with wooden legs and learned team work by “skiing” four together.

Unlike other events with control points where the main factor is time, the main thing in Nature Day was the received knowledge and skills. All of the thirteen teams were superb in coping with the main mission – received three facts in each of the control points and in the end, when combined them all, found the described object – the pine tree. Moreover, all teams received presents – “Mammadaba” magazines “Spring Colours” that contained pine tree seeds – so that each of them had a chance to grow their own special pine tree! The most active and witty teams received special presents from Jaunmokas Palace and “Latvijas zaļā josta”.

Thank you participants! And a special thanks to all collaboration partners that helped to organise and participated in the Nature Day – the Tukums Distric Council, JSC “Latvijas valsts meži”, association “Latvijas zaļā josta”, and forest owner association “Meža konsultants”, the 4-H of Irlava, and also “24 zālītes”. We thank you for your co-operation, activeness and knowledge that you gave to each of the participants! See you next spring?!
