Sestdien, 24. septembrī, Latvijā jau piekto reizi notiks ikgadējās starptautiskās putnu vērošanas sacensības “Latvijas valsts mežu putnu rallijs – 2016”, kurās piedalīsies 6 putnu vērotāju un ornitologu komandas no divām Baltijas valstīm – Latvijas un Lietuvas.
On Saturday, 24 September, the annual international bird-watching race “Latvia’s State Forests Bird Rally 2016” will take place for the fifth time. This year 6 bird-watcher and ornithologist teams from two Baltic countries – Latvia and Lithuania – will participate.
The race area will be half of Latvia’s territory – Kurzeme and Zemgale regions. During the race, which on 24 September will last for 14 hours from 4 AM in the morning until 6 PM in the evening, teams, with a mean of transport to their liking, will inspect the territory of race in a freely chosen route and will record audially or visually the observed and identified bird species and subspecies that are registered in the List of Latvia’s bird species and subspecies, on a condition that at least three members of a team should identify one and the same individual. Team consists of three to five members.
The team which will have recorded the largest number of bird species in the 14 hours in the territory of race will be the winner of the race. The race referees – experienced bird specialists Valdis Roze, Kārlis Millers and Kaspars Funts. There will also be special prizes for teams with the most interesting observation of bird or birds, for being active on posting the process of the race on social networks, and also for the most interesting photo taken in the race.
The race closing event, evaluation of results and winner announcement will take place on 24 September 2016 at 19:00 in the LVM Tērvete Reservoir ("Tērvetes sils", Tērvete district).
The bird-watching race is organised by JSC “Latvia’s State Forests”, the Latvia Birds Fund and website www.latvijasputni.lv.
