Each year green lifestyle is becoming more popular and more educational institutions take part in various environmental projects, involving students in environmental protection projects alongside with the educational process. By decreasing environmental pollution and ensuring another use of the secondary raw materials, hundreds of schools all over Latvia already for the thirteenth year are participating in the waste paper collecting contest “Tīrai Latvijai!” that is organised by “Zaļā Josta” and sponsored by JSC “Latvia’s State Forest”. In the first three months of the contest, more than 209 tonnes of used paper and cardboard have been delivered for recycling.
At the moment 350 educational institutions are participating in the waste paper collecting contest, involving more than 80 thousand schoolchildren and pre-school children in the collection of secondary raw materials.
The halfway winner of contest “Tīrai Latvijai!” is Ādaži Secondary School where students with the help of families, friends and neighbours have collected and given for recycling 11 tonnes and 30 kilograms of waste paper. The second place for the amount of collected waste paper at the moment is taken by Anna Brigadere Elementary School, whose students have given for recycling 8.004 tonnes of waste paper. However, third place was taken by Vārkava Secondary School students with 7.545 tonnes of collected waste paper.
The waste paper contest “Tīrai Latvijai!” has become a tradition and each year unites hundreds of educational institutions and thousands of children to take care of nature by collecting waste paper. The contest of waste paper collection will continue until the 13 March of year 2017.
