With the much darker and colder period, it is natural that also the active angling season is coming to an end. At the end of the 3rd season of sustainable and responsible angling competition “Release the Mother!”, which is organised by the JSC “Latvijas valsts meži”, the enthusiasts of responsible angling and creators of TV show “Makšķerē ar Olti” on the 11 November met at the LVM Lake Kaņieris to compete for the last time this year and to share their success stories.

“It has become our tradition: symbolically close a “Release the Mother!” season in one of the lakes managed by LVM, and when making the TV show “Makšķerē ar Olti” we invite all followers of the campaign to participate,” explains the idea author of responsible angling competition Matīss Ābiķis.

“It started 3 years ago, when in one wintry December day at the LVM Tērvete Reservoir we were closing our first season of competition. Last year the filming was on the 11 November – the Lačplēsis Day – a large number of anglers arrived. Spinning, fly fishing, changing locations and again spinning, fly fishing. It turned out to be like an unofficial competition, because each of participants wanted to be stand out amongst other anglers. That time Modris Skulte and Mārtiņš Tihanovs stood out. After the angling session – a bonfire with discussions, and also smoked Baltic herring from Lapmežciems. Such symbolic season closing with homage to freedom fighters, pike mothers and responsible angling felt very good, that is the reason why this year we repeated it at the LVM Lake Kaņieris,” remembers Matīss.

This year, contest's and “big bait” lure angling newcomers stood out – Intars Glinda and Egons Circens, see more about this in the episode of “Makšķerē ar Olti”.

The registration of catches for the responsible fishing and water reservoir friendly angling competition “Release the Mother!” has ended. Results are being summed up and the winners will be announced this month! Further information will follow.
