From December 1st until January 20th, 2019, the Tukums weaving workshop’s Folk Art Studio “Durbe” visits the Jaunmokas Palace with exhibition “Visiem silti” (Warm for everyone).
Exhibition has been set up in the spirit of Christmas and New Year. All works are handcrafted by the studio's participants in the last years: both ethnographically bright, colourful, and kerchiefs, blankets, scarves and shawles, patterned socks and mittens all coloured with natural dyes, and also unique written work and works made from modern materials – it all will warm the hearts and souls of visitors.
About Folk Art Studio “Durbe”
Tukums weavers began their activities in the late 1974 and in the year 1999 it got its name Folk Art Studio “Durbe”.
The main studio activities are ethnographic research, interest about national costumes, search of old fabric, patters and description examples, research in the collections of Latvian museums and books, visiting of various exhibitions and educational courses, going to experience exchange trips.
Studio offers to engage with weaving, embroidery, sewing, macramé, knitting, crochet, fabric printing, beading and other types of handcrafts. All through the existence of the studio a special attention has always been paid to the research and making of national costumes.
Members of the studio are regular participants in exhibitions in Latvia and abroad.
This year, in the framework of Latvia's centenary celebration, traditional skirt, kerchiefs and shawls have been in high demand; sewing and embroidery of shirts, weaving of belts has been learnt, and almost all weavers has made their own national costume.
The Folk Art Studio “Durbe” works next to Tukums Museum at the Tukums Weavers Workshop at the Tidaholma street 3. Studio has 40 looms and more than 50 members. Studio is led by the master Vineta Šulca with the help of Agrita Kunkulberga.
