While, the contest’s “Release the Mother!” 4th season has just begun, the creative team of project praise the achievement of previous years contestants – the size and number of fish that are registered for the contest with each years have grown in an almost geometrical progression. We thank all the fishermen for their loyalty, registering their catches in contest and taking part in activities connected with the project “Release the Mother!”, and we hope for an even greater participation in the future.

This year it will be more challenging, because in season of 2018 the number and average size of caught and released trophy fish increased significantly. Second chance was given to 14 pikes with 1 metre or larger size; the richest pike lakes – LVM Lake Gulbju or the “little Finland”, Alūksne Lake, Babīte Lake. All through the season more than 100 trophy size carnivorous fish were released. Within three year period more than 100 fishermen and fisherwomen have tested their skills in trophy fishing; each of the collaboration partner lakes last year managed to provide some surprises in the form of a large pike or an experience of exciting angling. The LVM Lake Kaņieris Lake once again “fixed up” a repeated catch and release case.

In year 2019 the number of collaboration lakes in “Release the Mother!” has reached number 12, the already existing partners LVM Lake Kaņieris, LVM Lake Lielauces, LVM Gulbju Lake and LVM Tērvete Reservoir, Alūksnes Lake, Burtnieks Lake, Babītes Lake “Vecupenieki” and Seda Ponds have been joined by – Engure Lake recreation base “Pīlēni”, Usma Lake and “Bukdangas”, Kāls Lake and the little Opsa Lake in Latgale, which in the ranks of “Release the Mother!” anglers is known for the rules of catch and release game.

The size of fish that can enter the competition starts with 70 centimetres for pikes, from 36 centimetres for perch, from 60 centimetres for zanders. We encourage to register your application in accordance with the rules of contest – it is important for us that all photos attached would be clear, so that when comparing with the data of previous years, we could identfy known fish, that is why take a photo of fish in full size, laid on the right side, with the tip of mouth to the indication “0” on the measurement trough. When filming a release of fish, hold the phone horizontally. Full text of the contest’s rules available HERE.

We have made some changes in the procedure of awarding – monthly encouragement prizes will go only to the largest registered fish size from each species, however, we will give prizes to three largest pike sizes in the sum of 3 applications from one person within one month and two best total lengths of perch from the sum of 3 applications. At the end of season, prizes will go to the 5 largest pikes, 3 largest perches and 2 largest zanders, as well as, 3 largest total lengths of pikes and perches from one contestant. The Honorary Fisherman’s badges for applications will be given the same as previous year.

Our supporters have stayed the same – SIA Ieroči with shops in all Latvia with orientation on all types of fishing equipment, clothes and products for hunters; Eholotes.lv – a serious fishing electronics shop, offers also clothes and boats, and also high-level consultations and underwater maps of water reservoirs; FishBon – specialised equipment and clothes for anglers and Golteenn – popular producer of large size silicone lures.

All public events in connection to “Release the Mother!” project will take place in a pop-up mode – will see – what will be the hydrometeorological conditions, the dynamics of contest's applications... We have in mind to continue the Fly vs. Jerk theme, there will also be a training for the younger generation, in autumn – depending on conditions – maybe some competitions, also we will make “Makšķerē ar Olti” stories together with famous people, and also will include you in the making of content for the show.
