Looking back at environmentally friendly Nature Day at Jaunmokas

15.05.2019 15:05

This time the Nature Day at Jaumnokas gathered elementary school class groups, which wanted to test and prove their erudition in different questions related to environment, and to understand how we can make our world greener. The participants arrived to the yard of palace from Tukums Secondary School No 2, Talsi Elementary School, Zante Elementary School and Tukums E. Birznieks-Upītis Elementary School.

Each team had to do tasks of various difficulty levels in control points, proving their knowledge theoretically and practically – measuring the cleanness of water, studying living creatures of the park’s pond, identifying samples of animal fur and plants in the lawn of park. All students were responsibly participating in sorting of used things and packaging, one control point attracted a lot of interest in particular – control point about making bags, hats and pillow-cases and other useful household objects that can be made from unusable and unneeded things. As each of the teams had homework – to create an original useful thing for household or interior from secondary materials – then this control point attracted even more increased interest, because they could get inspiration for new ideas.

After summarising the points we came to a conclusion that little strokes can fell great oaks, because 1st place was won by 8th grade team from Talsi Elementary School, who were separated from 2nd place team – 2nd grade team (Tukums E. Birznieks-Upītis Elementary School) – only by few bonus points, however, 3rd place – to 5a grade class 2nd team from Tukums Secondary School No 2. A wonderful, sunny day was spent in park, palace and Forest expositions were visited, gifts and new conclusions have been received – now it is time to learn new things for the next Nature Day!

We thank all participants and our helpers from the Latvian Museum of Natural History, the Ķemeri National Park, “AAS Piejūra” specialists and A. Tooma, the editor of journal “Vides Vēstis”.

See you next year!
