The friend of Latvian forests and protector of clean forests – the Pigman – at the beginning of August visited children at the Children’s hospital to cheer them up and give them a dose of thorough strength and endurance. Children together with the Pigman got to know the trees found in Latvian forests and studied the footprints of animals, and also learned how to sort waste. At the end of the meeting all children gave the solemn Pigman's oath, promising to be responsible and take care of the cleanness around them.
Each participant of the lesson also received Pigman's autograph.
Pigman was very satisfied that most of the children already knew the words of his anthem about clean forests and steps to the dance. A wonderful opportunity to join in a song and aim together with Pigman!
Nowadays life without plastic is unimaginable. Thanks to its many physical properties, plastic is replacing such natural materials as stone, wood, leather, textile fibre, etc. As the production of plastic amount keeps increasing, even more waste is produced. Carelessly tossed various containers and plastic bags with leftovers unfortunately can be eaten by animals.
Pigman during the meeting told children why waste should be collected. The foundation of collection of all waste is based on 3R conception, which means: reduce, reuse, recycle. To recycle waste, it needs to be collected!
Pigman, as the frontman of JSC “Latvijas valsts meži” social campaign "Don't Litter In The Forest!”, is being active already since year 2005. Pigman with his example is inspiring both children and adults to be responsible about nature and not leave litter in the nature.
In the previous school year almost 4000 children from 129 preschool educational institutions of Latvia have taken part in eco-programme the "Pigman's Detectives”. In its framework preschool children during the school year, depending on age, learn two different programmes – how pollution harms forest, and also how different processes takes place in nature and how to study forest by using all their senses. The job will be continued this year as well.
