Senu diena

At the moment forests are full of mushrooms and mushroom pickers. In honour of one of the most popular pastime activities in nature – mushroom picking, the LVM Embassy in collaboration with the Latvian Museum of Natural History invite to the Mushroom Day on September 5.

The main heroes of the educationally entertaining event will be the most common mushrooms of Latvia – both edible and nonedible.

In the LVM Embassy the whole day you can gain inspiration by watching a film about mushrooms in Latvia, and get to know the informative materials of LVM that tell about active and safe recreation in nature.

At 5 PM will begin the presentation of mycologist of Latvian Museum of Natural History Inita Dāniele and Diāna Meiere about the most popular Latvian edible and poisonous mushrooms. Following up with discussions and consultations.

We won’t forget about the main forest heroes on the Mushroom Day, that is why mushroom picking enthusiasts will be offered a mini exhibition of mushrooms found in the morning of Mushroom Day – surely there will be some discoveries!

Mushroom kingdom is diverse, rich with species. More than four thousand mushroom species have been found in Latvia. Almost half a thousand – have been acknowledged as edible, but majority of mushroom pickers collect only few dozen of mushroom species for consumption. It is better to be safe and sure about what is put in the mushroom basket! But if curiosity takes the upper hand and you want to know what are the unusual mushrooms you found, take them with you to the Mushroom Day to the LVM Embassy and together with mushroom experts learn more about them.

The LVM Embassy is in Rīga, Vaiņodes Street 1. On the Mushroom Day Embassy will be open from 10 AM until the last visitor and the last question. Visitors have a free of charge car park.
