Just one day before Mother's Day, our second mother – Mother Nature (Mammadaba) – also is celebrating, and what other than a celebration the Angling Championship’s opening can be called. Surely, it is a celebration for anglers and also for the organisers, supporters and, of course, it is also a celebration for Mother Nature, because once again it was proved that these competitions are anticipated by anglers, they think about them and are preparing for them. Knowing that all who want to participate will not be able to do so because of the limited number of boats, then a specified date and time for application was released and already during the first ten minutes thirteen teams from sixteen available places submitted their application! And after half an hour the number of participants of the seventh Mammadaba championship was complete.

After the opening line of the competition, where the changes in the rules of championship were reminded, after catch sheets and Mammadaba souvenirs were given out, sixteen teams, ten of which have already been participating previously, and the newcomers, jumped into boats and went for a fight of winning the Lielauce competition and to collect the valuable points for the overall assessment of six competitions. The bright sun, clear-blue sky, a small breeze and crystal-clear Lake Lielauce show that it won’t be easy and participants will have to sweat to catch the valid fish. For the first time in this championship, participants do not bring the caught fish ashore, but place them in measurement trough and measure them, the valid points come from valid pikes (from 50 cm) and perch, that are at least 20 centimetres in length. The sum of squares of fish lengths are those valuable valid points. Noting that such formula satisfies both the participants, and the wonderful sponsors of the championship: the main sponsor “eboat.lv”, which provides the main prize of the championship – two Raymarine Dragonfly 4 PRO fish finders, „Gold Fishing, www.sargofish.eu”, JSC „Dole Marine”, JSC „Salmo”, „Copes lietas” and the Latvia Angling Sport Federation.

During the seven hour time limit the sun was grilling the skin of participants, but the time flies by and boat after boat returns back to landing, and participants are heading to register their catches. Unfortunately, as predicted, the results due to the unfavourable weather conditions are quite scanty and there is no need to use a table in computer to calculate them, but a simple pocket calculator is enough. Nine pikes and one perch, which had grown above twenty centimetres, were caught. And only team “Pike Hunters” with Dāvis Griķis and Modris Skulte had caught two pikes and won the Lielauce competition. The largest pike, seventy one centimetres, from the shallow of Lake Lielauce was caught by Jānis Labucis, this beauty and his team mate Mārtiņš Labucis (team “Labuči”) ranked them in the second place, but the third were Renārs Herings and Andrejs Ivļijevs from Liepāja with a catchy team name – “Mad Butterfly”.

Results of the 1st competition

The first, and probably the hardest, competition of Mammadaba Angling Championship has completed, there are five more competitions ahead with new winners, adventures and unfortunately also loses, but you don’t always have to win to gain something. All participants of the competitions gain an excellent competition experience and new friends, will feel and enjoy the atmosphere of fair competition and an attitude towards ourselves, colleagues and our big mother that we share – Mother Nature. See you in the second competition on the 27 May in the Lake Kaņieris, there are some available places to apply for those teams that want to compete for the prizes of Kaņieris competition.
