Exhibition, play, signs and Knowledge Day – last weekend of August in Jaunmokas Palace

Last weekend of August in the Jaunmokas Palace will be colourful and eventful. We will begin on Friday, 25 August, with an opening of exhibition of paintings “Paralēles” and will continue with a with a play “Ak, Mariss, ilgu nemiers nenorimst!” performed by amateur theatre of Tirza and youth theatre studio. On Saturday the Sign Centre will be open for visitors, you will have an opportunity to create your own special Latvian sign and receive an interpretation of it, but on Sunday, 27 August, the new schoolchildren are welcomed to the Knowledge Day.

In the Tower Hall, on 25 August at 4PM the opening of an exhibition “Paralēles” will take place, exhibition has works of six painters – Linda Daņiļevska, Antra Ivdra, Ieva Liepiņa, Ingūna Postaža, Patrīcija Tiknuss and Kristīne Rubene. All artists have graduated monumental painting workshop of Art Academy of Latvia in a guidance of Professor Indulis Zariņš. Apprehending the conception of how it should be, searching and selecting their own path in art, authors are united by painting, a parallel sensing in the unsaid, common in the different... In their own individual way creating vision of world from a perspective of a distant observer and from their own personal contemplations. Art here is like an aesthetic experience and artist, who helps to see and feel world as a visual reality in representative memories or in abstracts and surreal characters.

In the evening, at 6PM in the Column Hall amateur theatre of Tirza “Mūžam tavs” and youth theatre studio “Miljons” will perform a beautiful play that based on memories. The play “Ak, Mariss, ilgu nemiers nenorimst!” is created after the memory stories of Mariss Vētra in his books “Rīga toreiz” and “Mans baltais nams” and tells about the time, when the world famous tenor studied in Conservatoire of Latvia (now Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music) and went to improve his knowledge to Italy. Play has been produced to have a precise portray of events of those times, and persons as well – here audience meets not only Mariss Vētra, but also bare foot artist Irbīte, universally acknowledged "Press Queen” Emīlija Benjamiņa, composer Jāzeps Vītols, soprano Ada Benefelde and other well known persons of that time. The director and dramatist is Alda Alberte.

The Saturday, 26 August, the Jaunmokas Palace have an unhurried atmosphere – starting from 9AM guests will be welcomed in the Sign Centre and the meanings of the signs created will be explained by Liene Bedrīte. Sign Centre is a unique place in Latvia, which combines ancient knowledge and modern technologies allowing everyone to create their own unique Latvian sign, which captures the specific moment in red-and-white colours and in an ornament which is based on Latvian signs. Whereas, on Sunday, 27 August, the young schoolchildren and especially those, who will begin their school years this autumn, will be welcomed to the Knowledge Day. At 12 noon in the Column Hall a fun and entertaining play “Baltais lācis – superzvaigne” performed by creative association “Teātris un Es”. The main character of the play, White Bear, has decided to become a superstar, but doesn't know how to do it... His loyal friend Penguin gives a helping hand, and all the fun begins! After the play, children will be welcomed to educational activities in the garden of palace and in the Forest Museum.
