In rain and wind
In strong, unceasing rain and wind, the sixth and last competition of Mammadaba Angling has passed. The poor weather and big waves made the competition extra hard, both for catching fish, and taking photos and capturing the moment of releasing them, not even talking about filling in the catch sheets, which took place in nearly extreme conditions. As the saying goes then there is no bad weather, only inappropriate clothes, and, of course, participants of the competitions were prepared for the bad weather not only physically but also mentally. A special compliment goes to the only female contestant Marta Žīgure, who participated in the Kaņieris competition with team mate Kristaps Kuzins, and Kristaps was the one who managed to catch the largest pike of this day's competition – an eighty nine centimetre long pike. With this achievement, a prize for him and his team mate.

Uncompromising battle
But it was an 8 hour long uncompromising battle in the large waves of the lake about every centimetre of fish, which turned into valuable points, not only to gain victory in the last competition, but also in the whole championship. And it must be said that everyone fought until the last minute, not only those who were competing for the first three places, but also others, mainly to prove to themselves that they know and can, and participants of the competition did it perfectly. The Mother Nature felt this ardour of anglers and rewarded them with large fish. Also, the format of the competition, when fish are measured, photographed and released is good for nature, because the released fish will continue to bring joy to fishermen also in the future, but to participants of the competition they have brought the valuable points. Until the last moment there was a battle in place for the third place in standings, teams “Komanda” with Aigars Līdumnieks and Kaspars Grablovskis, and “Mad Butterfly” with Renārs Herings and Andrejs Ivļijevs were separated only by half of a point. The Butterflies from Liepāja had some slop and they had to put up with the eight place in Kaņieris competition, but in the championship they ranked in the fifth place. Team “Komanda” from Saldus got the fourth place in competition and long awaited third place in the championship, and received the prize provided by sponsor “Dole Marine”. A fantastic last competition was spent by “Pike Hunters” with Dāvis Griķis and Modris Skulte, who caught nine pikes and twelve perches, receiving more that forty thousand points, a solid first place in the competition, which ranked them in the fourth place in the championship, but the Olympic six of championship was completed by Māris Smilga and Aivars Smilga from “Čus”. The fourth, fifth and sixth place winners got a year subscription to magazine “Copes lietas” from publisher “Lilit”.
But the most dramatic battle took place between the leaders of the championship Uldis Veidemanis and Artūrs Veidemanis from “Pils2” and Jānis Labucis and Mārtiņš Labucis from “Labuči”! None of these teams were willing to surrender and even fifteen minutes before the finish, standing on their feet in boats, they were eagerly casting the rough waters of Kaņieris. And their efforts paid off, both teams caught four large pikes and only the group of perch, this time bigger for the Veidemanis brothers, gave them the victory. Labucis brothers got a solid third place in the competition and the high second place in the championship, thus, getting the prize from sponsor “Gold Fishing”. But the champions of the Mammadaba Angling Championship 2017 became Uldis and Artūrs Veidemanis from “Pils2” and received the prize of the main sponsor of competition “eboat.lv”, www.eboat.lv – two Raymarine Dragonfly 4 PRO fish finders, or one of these fish finders and other equal value Raymarine product. “Eboat.lv” gives such great support for angling competitions because they think that angling is such a wonderful and healthy hobby, because people spend a lot of time in nature, in fresh air, and relax not only their body, but also mind. They switch off everyday worries, troubles and thoughts about work, they think only about how to catch fish and in such way they recharge, get positive emotions, renew energy and time to time feel a rush of adrenaline when a trophy size fish hooks.

In addition to merchandise, they also provide maintenance and repairs of angling equipment also after the sale, and also for the second year they offer storage of boats during the non-season period.
Over hot cup of coffee
After the awarding ceremony of winners, the participants of the competition warmed up with a hot cup of coffee and feasted on snacks provided by the LVM, they discussed about the competition, waters managed by LVM and the behaviour of fish, and also listened to Matīss Ābiķis, who is one of the initiators of campaign “Release the Mother!”, who praised the format of the championship, which has basically the same principles as the campaign. He also wished to continue next year this lovely, nature friendly and honest competition with the same success and excitement to which the participants of competition agreed unanimously while complementing the qualitative organisation of the competition.
