To select authors of the best outdoor educational games from the 7th-9th grade students, the video tutorials of 15 games that have made it to the semi-finals are published on the LVM school programme's “Izzini mežu, Latvija” Facebook page, as well as on the LVM Youtube channel, where from 1-20 February every user can vote for his favourite game just by clicking Like under the published video.
Five teams, which will receive the most Likes, will move forward to the final that will take place on 26 April in the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete. 10 teams will compete in the final – 5 will be selected by the judges of the contest, but other 5 will be determined by the public votes. The LVM Forest Olympics is an idea contest of creative and healthy outdoor educational games for 7th-9th grade teams with orienteering competition in the final and with a main prize for the champion team – a nature expedition abroad provided by the JSC “Latvijas valsts meži”. The final competition will test not only their knowledge about forests and forestry, but also their abilities to collaborate and work in a team.
The aim of the LVM Forest Olympics is to promote creative and healthy studying outside the Latvian school premises – in nature, and also to teach children an understanding about Latvia’s largest renewable resource – forest. The LVM Forest Olympics is organised by the LVM in collaboration with the National Centre for Education in the framework of the International Environmental Education Programme's “Learning about Forests”.
