IT MEANS MOTHER NATURE.

AND IT’S TRUE.

“Green Classroom” will introduce forestry to children

Zaļā klase

Even though summer and summer school break is in full swing, the “Latvijas Finieris” and JSC “Latvijas valsts meži” (LVM) invites children and teachers to plan next school year’s educational adventures to Latgale. For the first time in Rēzekne region on September 12 an educational excursion will take place to get to know the cycle of forest management and timber industry in Latvia!

About the adventure

All through the day in Rēzekne region’s Verēmu parish’s “Sarkaņkalns” children will be greeted by forestry professionals in informative stops created by organisers of the event and collaboration partners. Groups, in these stops, will participate in educational activities and learn many new things about forestry, trees and animals in them, and also about sustainable management of these natural values. Demonstrations of forest fire safety and forest management technique, the wide range of wooden products made in Latvia and their use in world, and also children will be able to learn about the possibilities to study in specialities connected to forest industry. At the end of excursion classes will come together for a picnic around bonfires and fill their stomachs with lunch brought with them, and also will be able to buy hot food. And all of that – on the top of Sarkaņkalns, more than 200 metres above ground, in one of the most picturesque places in Rēzekne region!

About the event

The aim of event is to provide once a year an opportunity for Latgale region’s elementary school age children a day long informative and entertaining learning about forest management and timber industry in Latvia in accessible distance, and also education and career possibilities in forest industry. In general the “Latvijas Finieris” Green Classroom's principle has been planned similar to the existing, tested forest education activities: “Forest Days of Latvia” in Tērvete, “Forest ABC” in Kurzeme, “Come, let's go to forest!” in Priekuļi.

In year 2019 we invite 6-9th grade students to participate, whose participation after application forms are sent in will be approved by organisers and, who come to the place of event with their own transport. Transport costs are not covered by organisers.

Depending on the distance you have to cover, you can choose the most suitable time of arrival – at 10 AM or at 11 AM. However, depending on the application number, organisers of the event reserve the rights to specify the recommended time of arrival.

A special opening ceremony is not planned. After arriving to the territory of event groups instantly will be invited to go to the informative stops that will be open until 3 PM. In the end everyone come together for a picnic and other adventurous activities.
