Ezernieki inspire to nature and bird watching
- Friday, 21 june 2019
Arend and Manda are a Dutch couple, whose hobby almost all their life is nature and bird watching, travelling all over Europe. This summer is the fourth time when both nature enthusiasts are staying at the JSC “Latvijas valsts meži” Recreation and Tourism Centre “Ezernieki”.
First time nature friends arrived to Ezernieki to have a little rest from the long road and get back on the road, but already in the next morning they understood that this is “their place”.
“In Ezernieki we feel safe, at the same time we are not surrounded with crowds, we can enjoy silence, closeness of nature and freedom,” says travellers. Arend and Manda travel with their car and a tent, which is why they appreciate the possibility to stay in Ezernieki: “This is not a fenced territory where each car or trailer has a strict territory close to others, besides, we can use shower and wash our clothes any time. Employees here are very kind and forthcoming.
From the age of 12 Arend has been enthusiastic bird watcher and has also “infected” his wife Manda with his hobby, and now for 44 years both are travelling together. “Ezernieki is located in a unique place – here is forest, in the evening we can also enjoy a safari here. In one direction is Teiči Nature Reserve, in the other direction – Lake Lubāns. It allows us to see large territories every day, but every evening comfortably return back to our camp,” says Arend.
Nature observations in Ezernieki
Couple remembers that, when bird watching in Spain, bird watching tower must be shared with at least ten other nature lovers while in Latvia they are not bothered by anyone. “We love Latvian nature, its uniqueness, intact, preserved territories contrary what we have in our homeland Holland. Here is a true feeling of freedom, a large diversity of large birds, butterflies, dragonflies,” adds Manda.
The joyful Dutch couple is confident that they will return to Ezernieki very soon: “Surely, we will see you very soon! We don’t even want to leave!”
