This spring in Northern Latgale region one western capercaillie male was fitted with a transmitter in the framework of a research of the Forest Research Institute "Silava” to find out the most important factors that affect western capercaillie behaviour. Altogether, Latvian state forests have three western capercaillies with transmitters. The data about the western capercaillie males, that were fitted with transmitters last year during the mating season in Eastern Vidzeme region, are being summarised and analysed. The bird fitted with transmitter this summer has a different mating territory and will allow to look at western capercaillie lifestyle in a wider spectrum, to investigate how far in different seasons western capercaillie goes from his mating territory, how it is affected by forestry activities, and also the presence of mushroom and berry picking humans in forest.
