Participate In Contest and Create Cleaner Environment

The JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” invites school and kindergarten children to participate in the contest “Tīrai Latvijai!” organised by “Zaļā josta” to collect waste paper and used batteries with an aim to motivate students to learn that sorted and returned waste become secondary raw materials for manufacturing new products, reduce the increasing amounts of waste and creates a cleaner environment. During the first days of the contest 92 educational institutions applied for the waste paper collection, thus, already the first 2.8 tonnes of paper has been delivered for recycling.

General, professional and pre-school educational institutions and also interest-related educational institutions are invited to apply for the waste paper collection competition “Tīrai Latvijai!” of school year 2016/2017.

To participate in the contest, a representative of educational institution has to register school in the electronic data base of the contest in the homepage of “Zaļā josta” www.zalajosta.lv, and also have to promote students’ active involvement in the collection of secondary raw materials.

 

RULES OF PAPER WASTE COLECTION COMPETITION RULES OF USED BATTERIES COMPETITION

All waste paper and batteries collected in the competition will be delivered for recycling, thus, adding an added value to them and giving them a second life. Results of the competition, the amounts of collected secondary raw materials, as well as, the winners will be announced in May of year 2017.

As previous years of the contest show, then the collection of secondary raw materials unites not only students of educational institutions, but also their parents, family members and people of the neighbourhood that collect used batteries and waste paper to support children’s initiative. Thereby, promoting understanding in society about the importance of waste sorting, the negative impact on environment of hazardous product waste and possibilities to preserve valuable resources.

Last year, 219 educational institutions participated in the collection of used batteries, collecting and delivering for recycling 27.64 tonnes of used batteries. However, the discipline of water paper collection in schools begin already at the begging of summer, when, in the cleaning of libraries old learning materials are utilized, thus, collecting the first paper waste amounts for the competition. Last year, 409 educational institutions participated in the collection of waste paper, collecting and delivering for recycling 1185.5 tonnes of waste paper.

The competition of secondary raw materials “Tīrai Latvijai!” is organised by “Zaļā josta” in collaboration with the National Centre for Education. The discipline of waste paper collection is supported by JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” by delivering the collected waste paper to recycling companies “Līgatnes papīrs”, “Clean R” and “AP Kaudzītes”. The collection of used batteries is carried out in collaboration with company “BAO”.
