Today we celebrate the UN International Day of Forests, whose theme in the 2019 is dedicated to forests and education. For the third year, in the scholarship competition “LVM School of Bioeconomics”, organised by the LVM, participants make video messages about the role of forest in our lives. Please evaluate and vote for your favourite work created by children.

The video messages submitted to the scholarship competition of year 2019 are published in the Facebook page “Izzini mežu, Latvija!”, where everyone is welcome to vote for the videos by pressing “Like” until the April 10.

In the framework of International Day of Forests an international contest was also announced, where teachers from all over world showed how they educate children about forest. Lolita Šteinberga, a teacher from Mammadaba Embassy – Sigulda Elementary School Nr 1, also is amongst the winners in the contest.

UN also announced an international contest for schoolchildren, where youth were invited to send in a 1 minute long video about forests of their country and why forest has a big role in the life of each person. We are happy to announce that amongst the winners is also one of the finalists of scholarship contest “LVM School of Bioeconomics” – Ieva Sīksaliete.

Each year in the March 21 the UN turn a special attention to the significance of forest types. In 2019, each participant of Day of Forests is invited to get to know forest education, to learn to love forest, and also to promote sustainable forest management and biodiversity.

The JSC “Latvijas valsts meži” for more than 10 years is offering environmental education programmes for children and youth of all age.
