In the week following the first Advent, the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete holds creative workshops “Celebration of Winter Door’s Opening at Dwarfs’ Cottage” for preschool age children and 1st and 2nd graders. Already during the first day of creative workshops children got to learn the secrets of dwarfs and got to know who is hiding under the thick, dark green cover of spruce branches, when they participated in the workshop with a theme – “Under a Christmas tree...”. And who was hiding under the Christmas tree? There, in the silence of snowed branches, sits an inspiring little work, a little advice and a little surprise!

Under the Christmas tree of Dwarf Daddy’s woodworking workshop waits a little work for the little guests of the miraculous forest. Dwarf Daddy tells stories about the green gold of Latvia – about the value of forest, about possibilities to use wood and about the variety of trees in Latvia. Children actively participated in the discussion with Dwarf Daddy and with enthusiasm were making creative fridge magnets – dwarfs with various colour wool beards and colourful ball at the top of birch-bark hat.

Little, nimble fingers attached birch-bark hats to disks of hazel tree with the help of little wooden hammer and pins. Now dwarf has a hat and bright eyes as well. In the most important moment children didn’t get confused and selected beards and hats for dwarfs with a thought out confidence. And, oh, beards were spectacular – grey and white, and moss green, but balls for the hats were selected in bright orange and purple colours!

When the job was done and the joy of the accomplished brought smiles and warmed hearts, it was time to go to meet Dwarf Mommy. But about the little advice, that is hiding at the Dwarfs’ Cottage, we will tell you another time!

November and December in the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete is a time of creative workshops, when one can learn, play and get to know nature and forest from the warm words and works of Dwarf family at the Dwarfs’ Cottage.
