JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” congratulates the finalists of the international competition “Young People in European Forests” – the 2011/2012 Mammadaba Embassy - Ventspils Secondary School No.4 schoolchildren on a fine fifth-place finish among 11 national teams.

Nine of the finalist schools were specialized forestry schools. Therefore the achievements of Ventspils Secondary School No.4 schoolchildren - Maruta Roģe, Agnis Kaspars Frišenfelds and Roberts Bomis – are particularly delightful.  Additional thanks to biology teacher Ineta Kraule who actively supported the schoolchildren. First place was won by the Technical Forestry High School Bruck /Mur (Austria). The 2nd Professional High School of Chalandri (Greece) finished second, the Baár-Madas Református Gimnázium (Hungary) – third.

In the finals, all participants had to answer fifty questions in English about European forests, their management, and prepare a presentation on “The Charm of Forests of My Country”. In their presentation, the Latvian s

choolchildren depicted an actual event – the visit of a Chinese exchange student in Latvia. The schoolchildren, on their way to Ventpils, informed the guest about various interesting facts regarding Latvia’s forests. Upon reaching Ventspils, the story continued - about the most interesting in the surrounding forests, the company “DendroLight Latvija” and environmental education at the Ventspils Secondary School No.4.
