5,000 children in "Pigman's Detectives" eco-program for kindergartens

30.09.2015 14:09

Registration for the "Pigman's Detectives" eco-program has concluded with an unexpectedly large response. Participating in the four theme programs will be 4,873 children from 224 pre-school education institutions all over Latvia.

Although the initial plan was that the program will include 100 kindergarten groups, Pigman, - the Latvian champion of clean forests, gained inspiration from teachers and decided to accept one and all who applied for the new program.

"I am happy that teachers are satisfied with the program and wish to become real detectives together with their pupils. This is the first step in teaching and showing children the secrets of nature. During the classes, they will sing, dance, draw, glue, plant pine seeds, and observe how they turn into seedlings and young trees. All this and more will take place outdoors. Expect from me the Secret Sack – I will place clues inside for knowledge. Isn't it great?" says Pigman.

Until April 20, 2016, children and teachers will have four current themes through game-classes:

  • The Forest's Dirty Secrets, revealing that litter has no place in a forest.
  • In Pigman's Footsteps, differentiating good deeds from bad ones outdoors.
  • Forests All Around, a revealing that tree is one of the most eco-friendly products, used to create wooden beds, tables and toys.
  • Let Us Grow Oxygen, revealing that forest is not only a nice place for walks where one can gather tasty forest goods, but it also absorbs carbon dioxide and produces oxygen that is so vital to us.

Director of Babite County's kindergarten "Saimites", Ieva Vanaga, says in her application form: "We want to join the program, because we wish to expose children to a more interesting, attractive, healthy, and eco-friendly lifestyle."

By learning Pigman's four lessons, the children will receive diplomas, and the most diligent and creative kindergartens will be visited by Pigman himself in order to personally thank them for their contribution in gaining new knowledge – afterwards, children will become Pigman's new assistants – detectives, who will look after and talk about order and cleanliness in forests.
