The new year in LVM Jaunmokas Palace starts with a pleasant event both for the employees of palace and for the visitors of the palace, because on Thursday, 12 January at 2 PM in the museum of Jaunmokas Palace will hold an opening for the new exposition’s “Forest and its importance in human life” 1st stage. It has been created in collaboration with the creative association “BrandEleven”, which developed and realised the design project of the new exposition. Its aim is to create a new culture-tourism offer with an interactive engagement, at the same time, providing an education of broad sections of society about the forestry and for promoting nature friendly lifestyle.
The first stage includes approximately 120 m2 of space, where, additional information about the exposition objects – mounted animals and hunting trophies – can be obtained by using different human senses, not only vision and hearing, but also touch and smell. On specially created various size bases, the objects of museum collection will be connected to special sound and light system, which helps to create more authentic idea about the real life in forest. Touch can be used in the stand about animals and their fur (with fur examples) and footprints.
Design project of the new exposition started already in the year 2015 with a development of design and finding funds. In 2016 by receiving support in the tenders of the Forest Development Fund and the State Culture Capital Foundation, realisation of the first stage of exposition could be initiated. The modern style of exposition and possibility to engage interactively is connected with promoting environmentally friendly “green thinking” ideas, which will also increase society’s interest about the importance of forest and its long-term values.
In the first stage of exposition five touch-screen panels have been installed with information about the mounted animals of exposition, 3 light boxes to create an effect of forest animal presence, 76 various size mounted animal bases were created, and also 2 magnetic screens, a map of Latvia's forest districts with game animal population density, footprints and fur stand, children corner with a stylised birds nest were installed.
In the next stage it is planned to add a deeper content by installing diverse interactive games. It will aid a more comprehensive learning of the diversity of tree species, plants and mushrooms in our forests, and also to understand and respect the importance of hunting in the preserving of forest resources.
The museum's exposition will be opened for visitors every day from 9 AM until 5 PM.
