Celebration of Meteņi at LVM Pokaiņi Forest

February is Candle, Snowstorm and Northern wind month, the last month of winter and the shortest month of the year – the period when we wait for spring. It is the month when we celebrate the Meteņi. That is why on 18 February everyone is welcome to celebrate Meteņi at LVM Pokaiņi Forest.

Already at 2 PM we will met at the fireplace room of LVM Pokaiņi Forest Information Centre to initiate the new way of Sun’s year by singing and playing kokle together with Peter Stephan. Each of us will weave in our colours in the linen of the new year.

At 3 PM We will go to ziggurat and together with Jānis Ieviņš (the White Wind), a practitioner of ancient traditions, we will seek the energy from the fire ritual of Meteņi, And we won't forget about the traditional sled riding down the hill.

And the end of the event will take place by the bonfire of Meteņi celebration with the large copper of strength porridge and the fragrant herb tea of Pokaiņi.

Entrance to the event with LVM Pokaiņi Forest tickets. Don’t forget happiness and spirit of adventure at home, as well as a sled and some treats to have with tea to get your strengths back.
