On 23 June, the LVM Senior environmental expert Uģis Bergmanis together with representatives of Latvian Fund for Nature helped to save a white-tailed eaglet which had fallen out of his nest.
The smallest one of two eaglets fell out of the nest, which is located in the LVM North Kurzeme region. This incident was noticed not only by experts but also by enthusiasts, who actively follow birds’ daily life with the help of online cameras.
At the moment Uģis Bergmanis is taking care of the bird at the wild bird rehabilitation station “Tiltakalni”, which is located in Madona region's Barkava district. There is always a lot to do – station has taken in not only the eaglet, but also three other white-tailed eagles and a greater spotted eagle.
“Bird is doing well. He is being fed with fish provided by supporters. Approximately after a month the eagle will be put on a special tower, which is far away from human populated areas and will be adapting to a life in wildlife,” says expert.
The LVM in collaboration with experts of Latvian Fund for Nature are carrying out monitoring of white-tailed eagle population in state forests, and also provides protection of nesting sites. To follow the development of situation read the forum of webpage www.dabasdati.lv.
